All of Scotland is too enticing but we had only limited days. To our luck, we chose (after much research) to explore Cairngorms mountains with Aviemore as the base. Different types of stay options are listed in the Official Visitor Guide to the Cairngorms National Park, and we zeroed in on Ravenscraig Guest House, easily walkable from the Aviemore railway station.
Brilliant choice it turned out to be! Ravenscraig Guest House website says “A Warm Highland Welcome Awaits.” It certainly was! Hosted by Helena and Scott, Ravenscraig Guest House is a well renovated house, originally built in 1903. The main building houses some of the rooms and a couple of additional cottages are built at the back of the main building.
Starting with the location, everything was perfect about this place. The railway station and bus stops are at a walking distance. So are the restaurants and shopping areas in the Aviemore town. The rooms are cosy and spacious with options for extra bedding for larger families. Breakfast options at Ravenscraig Guest House include porridge to eggs to pancakes to traditional Scottish Highland breakfast with blood pudding (if you have the guts!) plus a selection of seasonal fruits and berries. You get vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options, too.
The hosts communicated with us ahead of the trip, suggesting restaurant options for dinner. Since most of them needed advanced booking, this was hugely helpful. While we stayed there for three nights only, it seemed a perfect place for a slightly longer stay, soaking in the wild expanse of rugged mountains and blue lochs of Scottish Highlands.
The What3Words location address of Ravenscraig Guest House also has a special charm to it. Coolest.Exotic.Escaping.
